Buying sociology books for school or personal use can be difficult if you don’t know where to look. Luckily, the internet enables us to connect with companies that operate in specific areas of the market and helps us find information on great local stores! Listed below are several retailers that I have had good experiences with in the past.
Amazon is a magnificent online store that allows individuals and businesses to list items under a common product hub. Since each seller has to compete with each other, the prices tend to be much lower than you would find at a traditional retail book store. You can also find great deals on rare books. Be weary of sellers with low ratings, make sure to read their past reviews. Amazon tends to focus on buyer satisfaction much more than other companies, so if you need assistance with the site or dealing with a seller then definitely call them, they will be glad to help.
Barnes & Noble (www.barnesnoble.com)
This is a wonderful bookstore with brick and mortar locations all across the United States. They have a wide range of sociology books; with focuses in academia, personal reading, among others. They sell only new books, so prices tend to be in line with current publishing rates. However, Barnes & Noble recently implemented an online marketplace that allows individuals to buy, sell or exchange books with other individuals. Most times you will be able to find titles in usable condition for lower than retail price, but since you are dealing with individuals and not the company, be sure to do your due-diligence.
Thrift & Consignment Shops
This one may seem odd, but local thrift and consignment shops tend to have a huge selection of books. They are generally unorganized, so finding specific titles will require some searching. The great thing about these stores is that books are usually priced at or below $5 each. I befriended an employee at my local Goodwill and he notifies me whenever relevant titles come in, it works out great!
There are numerous other outlets to find sociology books, but these three seem to be the most reliable and affordable. Good luck finding books that meet your needs, and happy reading!
